Digital kills as gods once did
What will be left of us after total digitisation and climate catastrophe?
It’s a perverse suicidal determinism. Each step bringing us closer to the end, yet somehow we enjoy weaving the noose…
Digital isn’t human
Once the essence of each human is a digital footprint, a file extension, we will have lost something essentially analogue, the grainy ‘feel’ of a fingerprint, the skin in the human game.
We are data
For sure our experience as humans is becoming digified, with our lives increasingly lived through, via and mediated by technology.
Wearables become tattoables, digestibles, inheritables.
For now ‘life hacks’ are tips, but only until we hack our DNA.
So, what gets left behind? What will a human legacy be once it has been fully digified?
When nature takes us back under its wing, when the data centres drown and the tsunamis collide.
Who will know if we really brought this on ourselves or if it was the wrath of gods, furious with our scrollings and tappings?
Archival
In the end it won’t matter what we liked, shared or commented on.
Nothing will be archival.
Our digital currency fleeting, lost forever.
There’ll be no time
to more than summarise
the insta sunrises and the whitty reprises.
The feed a flood
over empty lands.
The clouds collide
stratodigified
Let’s make it clear
we existed
before our truth denied

Everyone is screaming, but we only hear the hum.
